Young striker Remy Siemsen made a big impact in her return to Sydney FC, as the defending W-League champions started their season on a high note, defeating reigning premiers Melbourne Victory 3-0.
Sydney led 2-0 midway through Sunday's first half and were not seriously challenged in front of a home crowd of 3219 for the first match of the Big Blue double-header with A-League counterparts at Netstrata Stadium.
In her first game back in the sky blue after a stint with Western Sydney, Siemsen bagged a double.
It started in just the fourth minute when she scored off a gift pass from Matildas star Caitlin Foord.
That budding partnership paid off again in the 22nd minute when Siemsen headed a goal from the centre of the box off a Foord assist, taking her W-League tally to 38 in her fourth season.
The 20-year-old Siemsen said their combination had only blossomed in the past week, having spent minimal time together through the pre-season.
"She (Foord) is been someone I've looked up to since I was 10 years old so to play with someone like that is quite surreal for me," Siemens said.
"I think we have this connection up top which I'm really enjoying. We clicked last week at training and she's a pretty amazing player.
"I think anyone could step into that role and look pretty good if she's giving you service like that."
Young Matildas vice captain Shadeene Evans polished off the win with a header from the middle of the box in extra time, her second goal in the W-League.
At the other end, Sydney FC keeper Aubrey Bledsoe made a few important saves midway through the first half, but was barely troubled further.
Despite Victory stepping up their defence in the second half, they have plenty of room for improvement after failing to strike a blow against their big rivals.
In the opening match of the W-League season, the Wanderers made a dream start with a 2-1 victory over Adelaide United on Thursday at Marconi Stadium .
Young Matildas teen Kyra Cooney-Cross scored the match-winning goal in the 92nd minute in her W-League debut for the Wanderers.
In Sunday's early game, Canberra United scored a 2-0 win over Perth at McKellar Park, with American import Simone Charley grabbing both goals within the first 11 minutes.
In the final game of the round, the Jets drew with Melbourne City 1-1 at No.2 Sportsground in Newcastle.
