City set for double Adelaide challenge

Melbourne City defender Scott Galloway says his team is prepared for the challenge of taking on Adelaide twice in the space of four days.

City host the Reds at AAMI Park in the A-League on Sunday night, before a short turnaround to face the same team in Adelaide in Wednesday's FFA Cup final.

Both teams are searching for their first A-League win - City drew 0-0 with Melbourne Victory first-up while Adelaide lost to Sydney at home.

"It's going to be a tough game, it's going to be a good game," Galloway told reporters on Wednesday.

"We play them twice in two massive games right after each other so you take them one game at a time, we want the three points in the league to really kick-start our league campaign."

Galloway won the FFA Cup with Adelaide last year and enjoyed a breakout season before crossing to Melbourne City.

"To go back there to the place I won it last year and try and take it away from them now, it's going to be great," he said.

"It's a fantastic place to go play, the atmosphere's unbelievable but if you're the travelling team going there and you get the win it's not going to be that loud.

City will be bolstered by the return of Jamie Maclaren, who missed the Melbourne derby through international duty but scored a hat-trick for the Socceroos against Nepal, then another goal off the bench against Taiwan.

"There's no question of how good a player he is and how good a finisher he is," Galloway said.

"He's been scoring goals for us all pre-season in the Cup and then he goes away with the Socceroos and he's scored four goals in two games.

"He's a quality player and he'll be fantastic to have back in the squad, especially coming into these big games."
