Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola confirms interest in John Stones

SHENZHEN, China -- Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed his interest in signing Leroy Sane from Schalke and John Stones from Everton.

Sources have told ESPN FC that City are in talks with Everton over a deal for England defender Stones and Guardiola said he wants to sign the 22-year-old.

He is also interested in Germany forward Leroy Sane, though he would not reveal if a deal for either player was close.

City drew 1-1 with Borussia Dortmund at the International Champions Cup in China, but won 6-5 on penalties, and Guardiola was asked in the postmatch news conference about his transfer plans.

The Catalan coach has revealed his interest in Sane before, but replied: "Sane is a player from Schalke. You know, I know, everyone knows we would like to have him but at the moment he is a Schalke player.

"If he comes we'll be happy, if he stays in Schalke I will be happy for the fans and for the Schalke club."

Sources told ESPN FC earlier this month that Stones is also keen on the transfer and has informed Everton of his desire to move to the Etihad this summer.

Guardiola said of Stones: "It's the same answer for Sane -- he's a player for Everton. Everybody knows we're going to try but I don't know what's going to happen. I'm very happy with the squad we have, in the way they train and play. That's all I can say."

The two clubs have been in dialogue over Stones for most of the summer and sources have told ESPN FC that talks are at an advanced stage.

Stones flew out to Germany with Everton on Thursday for two friendlies in Dresden despite the speculation.
