Werder Bremen have confirmed the signing of U.S. international Aron Johannsson from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.
Johannsson, 24, underwent a medical before completing his transfer for a fee reported to be in the region of €5 million.
Alkmaar had rejected an initial offer for the forward but were willing to continue negotiations.

Werder chief executive Thomas Eichin told his club's official website: "Aron was our top choice for the vacant striker's position, and therefore we're really happy that he's chosen to sign for us."
Sporting director Rouven Schroder said the new player was "a very mobile striker who scored goals at an excellent rate for Alkmaar."
He added: "He's also got a lot of potential to improve further and to continue his positive career trajectory with us here at Werder."
Johansson said: "It's the right step for me to continue my development. Werder Bremen is a big club, and I'll give everything I have to develop further as a player and to contribute to the team's success."
After joining Alkmaar from AGF Aarhus in January 2013, Johannsson scored 38 goals in 84 games.
He has made 17 appearances for the U.S. national team and is set to replace Franco Di Santo in Bremen's attack following the Argentine's transfer to Schalke.
