Man United target Nicolas Otamendi is worth at least €50 million, say Valencia

Valencia have warned Nicolas Otamendi that any club who wants to sign him will have to pay at least €50 million, and vowed they will not to be forced to sell the centre-back amid reports linking him with Manchester United.

Otamendi, 27, has been mooted as a summer target for United, with the defender's agent Eugenio Lopez declaring the Argentina international is determined to leave the Mestalla amid interest from several potential buyers.

But Valencia president Amadeo Salvo was adamant they will not sell Otamendi -- who cost them €12 million when he arrived in 2014 -- on the cheap, and told the player he will have to make his position clear in public if he wants to go.

"Valencia do not give in to pressure from any agent or any comments," Salvo said via the club's Twitter account. "Valencia's position will always be the same. If Otamendi wants to leave he will have to say it publicly.

"If he wants to go he will have to come to the club, not an agent, and pay what the club decide he is worth, which is €50 million at least, and with the payment structure that Valencia decide.

"Otamendi is a Valencia player and we are extremely happy with him. Valencia have not received any offer. In any case Valencia are very happy with the player and we would like that he sees out his contract with us."

United received a setback in their search for a centre-back last week when Borussia Dortmund revealed that Mats Hummels -- a long-term United target -- had informed BVB he wants to stay at the club.
