Gonzalo Castro signs for Borussia Dortmund from Bayer Leverkusen

Borussia Dortmund have announced the signing of Gonzalo Castro from Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen.

Dortmund have triggered the €11 million release clause in Castro's contract to secure the midfielder on a four-year deal.

"We are delighted to have signed Gonzalo Castro -- an experienced, technically skilled midfielder, who can be used in different positions," said Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc.

Castro joined Leverkusen as a 12-year-old in 1999 and has made nearly 300 Bundesliga appearances for the side.

The 27-year-old, who has won five caps for Germany and was also linked to Bayern Munich, is the first signing for Thomas Tuchel, who will replace Jurgen Klopp as Dortmund coach this summer.

On Saturday, Dortmund secured a seventh-placed Bundesliga finish which secures them Europa League qualification due to their appearance in this season's DFB Pokal final.
