Real Madrid complete deal for Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva has completed his move to Real Madrid, the European champions announced on Friday.

The 21-year-old leaves Cruzeiro for a 5½-year deal at the Bernebeu, where he will be presented on Monday after undergoing a medical.

The transfer fee is reported to be in the range of 14 million euros, which Cruzeiro will split with multiple third-party owners.

Lucas Silva has won the past two Brazilian league titles with Cruzeiro, was named to the tournament's best XI last season and honoured as the league's top defensive midfielder.

On their website, Real said he has "good ball skills and is also noted for his defensive work," and that he's also known for being effective in attack when he pushes forward.

Cruzeiro vice president Marcio Rodrigues confirmed to ESPN Brasil on Thursday that the deal was imminent, and said he was helpless to keep his midfield general in his native country.

"Lucas Silva is signed and the announcement should be made [soon]. As of now there is nothing more to wait on. When the athlete wants to go and there's pressure in this business the high salaries in Europe prevail," Rodrigues said.

The signing of Silva comes two days after Norwegian teenager Martin Odegaard joined Real Madrid.
