Jurgen Klopp has hinted Liverpool could yet sign a new defender before the January transfer window closes. "We thought [about making signings] and we think the whole time but it's about doing the right thing. We need to find the right player. It's incredible what's happening in the defensive line." Matip was replaced at half-time by Nathaniel Phillips and Klopp confirmed the player had injured ankle ligaments. Klopp added: "It's not just about bringing a body in. Nate and Rhys [Williams] have done so well. "The situation is unbelievably strange. We will see what we do but this tonight did not help. It looks like something serious." Speaking in a news conference on Friday, Klopp confirmed that Matip's injury wasn't as serious as first feared. "Joel, last night I was pretty emotional after the game," he said ahead of Liverpool's trip to West Ham United on Sunday. "There are still glimpses of hope that it's not that serious. We don't know the final result. We will know more in three to four hours, hopefully." Klopp confirmed that Fabinho would miss the game at the London Stadium and also reiterated his desire to bring in a defender for the right price. "You can imagine that we can think about everything," he added. "We think the whole time it's about doing the right thing. I'm not picky but we need to find the right player. "I am not sure there is an £80 million centre-back available at the moment or that teams would sell. We need to find right player and it has to suit our financial situation."
