TOP STORY: Man City make £82m offer for Gimenez
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been desperate to strengthen his defence all summer, even after they signed Nathan Ake from Bournemouth for £41m. And it seems Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez is the answer.
AS reports that City have made a bid of €89m (£82m) for the Uruguay international, plus a further €5m in add-ons, but it might not be enough to prise him away from the Wanda Metropolitano.
According to the report, Man City sporting director Txiki Beguiristain has been locked in negotiations with CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin and sporting director Andrea Berta. But Atletico do not want to sell their player, which will make a deal harder to strike.
Gimenez, 25, has a €120m (£110m) release clause in his contract, but City hope they can reach an agreement with the coronavirus pandemic suppressing the transfer market and hitting Aleti's financial situation.

22.38 BST: United States U23 defender Sam Rogers is closing in on a deal with Spanish side CD Leganes, according to SBI Soccer's Ives Galarcep. Rogers came through the Seattle Sounders FC academy, but has not played for the club's first team in MLS. He is currently with Seattle's reserve team, USL outfit Tacoma Defiance.
22.01 BST: Napoli want to sign AS Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout, but they're unable to meet the Giallorossi's €40m valuation. The Partenopei are banking on securing large sums for the sales of Kalidou Koulibaly and Arkadiusz Milik, but Gazzetta dello Sport writes that the issue is that Manchester City are only offering €70m for the former (€20m short of Napoli's valuation) and Roma will only pay €20m for the latter (who will be free to sign a pre-contract with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur in January).
21.24 BST: Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is a target for Serie A clubs Torino and Fiorentina, according to the Guardian. The Uruguaya international, 24, did not feature as the Gunners opened the Premier League season with a 3-0 win at Fulham on Saturday and could return to Italy, where he played for Pescara and Sampdoria before joining Arsenal in July 2018.
20.47 BST: Promising 20-year-old Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is closing in on a loan switch to West Bromwich Albion, according to the Guardian, ahead of interest from Leeds United and Aston Villa.
20.10 BST: ESPN's Gab Marcotti and Julien Laurens react to extraordinary claims by former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness that the German champions are being "blackmailed" by Manchester United and Liverpool over midfielder Thiago.
19.33 BST: As Internazionale court Chelsea left-backs Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri, Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Nerazzurri manager Antonio Conte prefers Alonso. However, the west London outfit aren't interested in any loan offers that include options to buy, preferring instead an outright sale of either player. Nevertheless, Inter believe they can still structure a deal for either in such a manner.
18.56 BST: Sky Sports reports that Manchester United could turn their attention to negotiating a loan deal for Real Madrid outcast Gareth Bale should they continue to be frustrated in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund wunderkind Jadon Sancho, with the 31-year-old Wales international said to be desperate to leave the Spanish capital and open to moving to Old Trafford.
18.19 BST: Earlier, we brought you a report that Real Madrid were looking to get one over on rivals Barcelona by signing Lautaro Martinez. Well, Fabrizio Romano reckons the Argentine striker is going nowhere, with a new contract at Inter his most likely next 'move.'
17.45 BST: Liverpool may have to sell "a big hitter," in order for manager Jurgen Klopp to build some depth in his squad, ESPN's Mark Ogden has told the "Gab & Juls podcast."
"They have a very, very strong first 11," Ogden said. "A great team to watch, the machine works great. But there should be two to three players banging on the door to start and say, let's move things on a bit."
17.12 BST: DONE DEAL! Scottish left-back Tony Gallacher is swapping Liverpool for Toronto, where he will stay until the end of the MLS season.
Gallacher, 21, joined the Anfield club from Falkirk in January 2018 and made his first-team debut in the Carabao Cup against Aston Villa in December last year.
16.54 BST: In addition to all the moves that are being confirmed, there are several big-name players who are agitating for a transfer but who might come up short before the window closes on Oct. 5. 16.33 BST: Manchester United are preparing an opening offer for Real Madrid's Sergio Reguilon, but do not want to pay the €30 million asking price according to the Guardian.
Reguilon, 23, impressed last year on loan at Sevilla FC, helping the club win the Europa League, but it is understood the player is not in Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane's plans for the 20-21 campaign. It's also unlikely Reguillon would return to Sevilla, as the Spanish side confirmed Monday that they had agreed a deal with Sporting Lisbon full-back Marcos Acuna.
The Red Devils are expected to make an offer under Madrid's €30m asking price, and have also insisted against a buyback clause Real are looking to insert in the player's contract.

15.40 BST: Fulham have announced new contracts for three of their promotion-winning squad. Josh Onomah and Joe Bryan are now tied to club to 2023, while Denis Odoi has agreed terms through to 2022.

15.07 BST: ESPN's Julien Laurens insists that Kylian Mbappe has not asked to leave Paris Saint-Germain and the club are optimistic he will extend his contract.

14.38 BST: Manchester United fear increased competition for Jadon Sancho's signature next summer if they cannot prise him away from Borussia Dortmund in this transfer window, sources have told ESPN.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not given up hope of signing Sancho, despite Dortmund insisting privately they will keep the 20-year-old for at least another season. Despite making progress with wages and agent fees, United are adamant they will not pay the €120m asking price and are ready to pursue other targets to fill the hole in the squad.
14.01 BST: Marko Grujic's agent has told kicker that Liverpool want to keep the player at the club and has ruled out a loan move away from the Reds. "Liverpool want to keep Marko. That could change in January at the earliest," his agent said.
Grujic, 24, has spent the last two seasons on loan at Hertha Berlin after failing to break into the Reds' first team. The Serbia international made 29 appearances in the Bundesliga last season and was previously linked with both Aston Villa and Leeds United.
13.23 BST: United States attacker Ulysses Llanez, 19, is set to join Dutch outfit Heerenveen on loan from Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg. Llanez remains in the German side's plans and they hope he can gain experience in another league. He joined Wolfsburg in the summer of 2019 and scored 11 goals and set up a further six in 16 appearances for the club's under-19s last term. He was promoted to the first team after the coronavirus break in April, but while training with the team has not featured in a competitive match. The 19-year-old has already been capped once by USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter. He scored the only goal in a 1-0 friendly win against Costa Rica in February.
12.50 BST: Coach Thomas Tuchel has called on Paris Saint-Germain to make more signings this summer during an interview with Telefoot.
"Are there going to be new players? I really hope," Tuchel said following a 1-0 loss to Marseille. "It's no secret, we lost five players including [Eric Maxim] Choupo-Moting. It's going to be complicated, we play a lot of matches. I don't know if other teams that have played in the Champions League should play so much games."
Pressure is building on Tuchel following the Champions League final loss to Bayern Munich. PSG have failed to score in their opening games of the season in back-to-back Ligue 1 defeats to Lens and Marseille. The club have so far signed full-back Allessandro Florenzi from AS Roma, and have been linked with moves for Stade Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga and Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi.
12.19 BST: Remember when we all assumed Lautaro Martinez would be headed for Barcelona this summer? Well, Sport Mediaset now reckons Real Madrid are trying to hijack the deal in stunning fashion. Barca have seen their financial position severely compromised by the coronavirus pandemic, and have little funds to strengthen their squad without selling. And that could open the door for Los Blancos.
The reports says that Zinedine Zidane is ready to weigh in with a €100m offer, and if the transfer goes through Internazionale would reinvest the funds by buying N'Golo Kante from Chelsea for €50m.

11.43 BST: Luis Suarez risks spending the season in the stands as he remains in a tense stand-off with Barcelona over his contract situation, sources have told ESPN.
Suarez, 33, is surplus to requirements at Camp Nou and new coach Ronald Koeman informed him last month that he should look for a new club. However, the striker still has one year left on his contract and believes the club should pay him the final year of his deal in full if they want him to leave now. He is paid around €25 million gross annually, according to local reports in Catalonia.
11.11 BST: Chelsea legend Branislav Ivanovic is set to be unveiled as a West Bromwich Albion player later today after undergoing a medical. Ivanovic, 36, has spent the last three years in Russia with Zenit Saint Petersburg and helped them do the league and cup double last season. However, he now appears ready for one last crack at the Premier League after his contract with the Russian club expired. He won three titles with Chelsea, as well as three FA Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League.
10.45 BST: Following Everton's 1-0 win vs. Tottenham Hotspur, ESPN's Don Hutchison, Shaka Hislop and Frank Leboeuf reflect on new signings James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure, saying the trio have galvanized the squad and could lead to a top-six finish for Everton under Carlo Ancelotti.

10.13 BST: Sky Italia reports that Arturo Vidal's move to Inter Milan is imminent. The Nerazzurri are in advanced talks with Barcelona to sign the Chile international. Vidal is tied to Barcelona until next summer but is expected to leave the Camp Nou this week. The 33-year-old will be reunited with former Juventus coach Antonio Conte. Vidal has reportedly agreed a two-year contract with Inter, with the option of a third season. He was at Juventus for four years before joining Bayern Munich in the summer of 2015.
09.42 BST: Newcastle United striker Yoshinori Muto is set to join La Liga side Eibar on a season-long loan, sources have told ESPN. Muto signed for the Premier League side from Mainz two seasons ago for £9.6m, but has just one goal in 25 top flight appearances.
With Newcastle bolstering their striker options in the close season with Callum Wilson from Bournemouth, Muro's playing time will be limited at St James' Park this season so he will spend the 2020-21 campaign on loan in La Liga.
09.00 BST: Tottenham Hotspur are desperate to bring a striker in, and the Daily Express reports that Crystal Palace's Alexander Sorloth could be the answer. Sorloth is on a two-year loan from Palace at Trabzonspor in Turkey, who have an option to buy the player. According to the report, Trabzonspor could activate the right to buy early and then sell the player to Spurs. Sorloth won the Turkish Super Lig Golden Boot last season with 24 goals.

Man United could turn to Perisic
Manchester United could drop their interest in Jason Sancho and instead go for Ivan Perisic again, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Several wingers have been linked with United in recent years, including Jadon Sancho, Gareth Bale and Douglas Costa, of Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid and Juventus respectively.
Perisic himself has confirmed that he was on the brink of moving to Old Trafford in the summer of 2017 before a switch of manager at Inter made him change his mind and stay.
The Croatia international did leave Inter last summer, to spend the season on loan at Bayern Munich. A permanent move didn't materialise and his future at Inter is uncertain, and United could rekindle their interest.
Last week, ESPN sources revealed that United had made progress on issues surrounding wages and agent fees for Sancho. But with three weeks to go until the transfer window closes, United need to keep their options open. Dortmund value Sancho at €120 million -- a fee United believe is "unrealistic" during a global pandemic.
Meanwhile, having seemingly being snubbed by Real Madrid's Sergio Reguilon, who favours another loan move to Sevilla over a transfer to Old Trafford, United are looking at Alex Telles, reports A Bola.
The Porto left-back's contract comes to an end in the summer of 2021, so the Dragoes have lowered demands of what they'd want in return for him in an effort to avoid missing out on any financial gain whatsoever.
They had been asking for €30 million but are now happy to accept €20m due to the current situation.
There are said to be other teams interested in signing him as well, but they are not named within the report.
Hernandez leaves his future up to speculation
Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez has left his future up to speculation during an interview with Telefoot.
The France international has not had the best of times in Bavaria, despite Bayern's dominance across country and continent, due to a lack of game time.
This led him to say: "I still have four years of contract with Bayern. But if it continues to be this complicated, I'll see."
Considering the speculation around David Alaba and Thiago Alcantara -- both of whom former Bayern president Uli Hoeness slammed in an outburst on Sunday -- this is something the German giants would have preferred to avoid and the future of all three players has to be in doubt.
Godin set to join Cagliari
It has only been a year since Diego Godin moved from Atletico Madrid to Internazionale, but, according to Calciomercato, he is on the move again.
The Italian outlet has suggested that the Uruguay international will sign a three-year contract worth €2.5m-per-year with Cagliari, with Inter paying €1.5m for the first season.
It is believed that he could even end up signing for the Serie A outfit as soon as Monday or Tuesday.
Considering the centre-back's profile in the game, despite him now being 34 years old, this will surely be considered a real coup for Cagliari.

It is claimed that he will complete a medical on Monday, then join up with his new teammates in Alicante by Tuesday. The fee will be €10m, with two add-ons, and the deal will see Acuna join the club for four seasons.
- It has only been a matter of months since Brazilian outfit Atletico-MG signed Leo Sena, but he will now be heading out on loan, according to Globo Esporte. The report claims the midfielder will join Spezia, who are preparing to play Serie A football for the first time in their history this term. Despite being the first signing made under Jorge Sampaoli, Sena has been left out of the Argentinian's plans, which has opened up the temporary move to Italy.
