Solskjaer: Man United can 'exploit' transfer market after coronavirus shutdown

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that the club should be in a position to "exploit" the transfer market once the window opens following the coronavirus shutdown.

FIFA have unveiled plans to allow transfer windows to be moved and enable an extension to the European season, with all of the continent's major leagues suspended due to the pandemic.

Solskjaer is looking to strengthen his squad and has said United's strong financial position, even during a time of uncertainty, could give the club an advantage.

"Football is going to get back to normality at one point, and it's very important we're ready when that happens," Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

"Then, the market, who knows how the market is going to react to this? Who knows which clubs need to sell players?

"There might be just a situation there where you can exploit, and I know that we at Man United we are one of the biggest, and the biggest, financially well-off."

Solskjaer is keeping tabs on his players while they train at home during the shutdown after the squad were given individual programmes to keep them in shape.

He is also using his extra free time to narrow down his list of transfer targets with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and the recruitment department as he looks to bring a striker, forward and another midfielder to Old Trafford.

"We want to be the best at everything, and of course now is a chance to spend more time, you discuss players, discuss plans," he added. "We've evaluated what we need, of course with the coaching staff we've looked at games, evaluated games, discussing on video calls like this."

"I'm sure we are capable, when we get back to normality, that we can do the business that we want to."
