U.S. defender Jonathan Spector joins Scotland's Hibernian for rest of season

Defender Jonathan Spector has signed with Hibernian of Scotland's Premier League after two seasons with Orlando City in Major League Soccer.

Hibs said the 33-year-old from Arlington Heights, Illinois, has agreed to a contract through the rest of the season after Orlando declined the option on his contract for 2019.

Hibs said Friday that Spector had been training with the team and will be available to play after the international break.

Spector told the club's website: "I'm excited to be here. With the MLS season finishing I've been off for a little bit but I've been here for a couple of weeks now and it's been a great transition period to get used to everything.

"I understand the expectations of the manager and I was able to get a feel for the club having gone to a couple of the home matches.

"I'm certainly ready to get going to help the team and the club in whatever way I can."

Spector has 36 appearances with the U.S. national team. He was Orlando's captain last year following the departure of Kaka.

After making three appearances with Manchester United in 2004-05, he played for Charlton (2005-06), West Ham (2006-11) and Birmingham (2011-17) before moving to MLS.
