Chelsea's Batshuayi won't make Monaco move; but Gelson Martins close to joining - sources

Michy Batshuayi will not join Monaco on loan this month, despite the French club's attempts to convince Chelsea to let him go to the Principality, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Blues do not want their striker to be loaned again after a successful spell at Borussia Dortmund in the second part of last season and a much more difficult one at Valencia this campaign.

Chelsea want to sell the Belgian international and Monaco only wanted a loan. Vadim Vasyliev, the Monaco vice-president, was still very confident of Batshuayi's signing, confirming on French television 10 days ago that the deal was happening.

Even a few days ago, it looked like the two clubs could still find an agreement but after more than a week of negotiations, Monaco have admitted defeat. Everton is the likely destination now for the former Marseille forward, according to the same sources.

However, Monaco are closing in on the loan of Gelson Martins, the Atletico Madrid winger. Sources have told ESPN FC that the former Sporting Lisbon star could finalise his move to the Principality by tomorrow.

The 23-year-old Portugal international has not played much this season so far under Diego Simeone in Madrid.

Monaco were looking for pace and skills on the wings and it looks like they have beaten the competition to his signing.
