Real Madrid track Villarreal's Alfonso Pedraza - source

Real Madrid are monitoring the progress of Villarreal's Alfonso Pedraza, a source has told ESPN FC.

Pedraza, 22, has over 100 senior appearances and can play either at left-back or left-wing. He is under contract at Villarreal until June 2021, with a buy-out clause of €22 million.

Madrid's two left-backs are injured vice-captain Marcelo, 30, who has been linked with Juventus in recent months, and Sergio Reguilon, 21, who made his senior debut in the 1-0 defeat to CSKA Moscow.

The European champions are looking to continue their recent a policy of signing the best emerging Spanish talent.

Pedraza came through the ranks at Villarreal, and spent the 2016-17 campaign on loan at Leeds United, before impressing last season on loan at La Liga side Alaves with four goals and six assists in 37 games.

In recent weeks, he has started more regularly for Villarreal, and he contributed assists in matches against Atletico Madrid and Alaves followed by the late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at home to Levante.

Pedraza was part of the Spain team which won the European under-19 Championship in 2015, where his teammates included Madrid players Marco Asensio, Dani Ceballos and Jesus Vallejo.

Spain national team coach Luis Enrique called Pedraza up from the U21s to train with the senior squad ahead of October's internationals against Wales and England.
