Mexico defender Diego Reyes has put pen to paper on a deal to move to Turkish club Fenerbahce, following a summer of speculation about the 25-year-old's future.

Reyes was a free agent after his contract with Porto ran out at the end of last season and received a raucous reception on arrival in Istanbul.

"I'm very happy to come to Turkey's greatest club," Reyes is quoted as saying on the club's social networks. "I will do everything I can and work hard. I want to become champion with my club this season!"

Fenerbahce finished in second place in the Turkish league last season, behind champion Galatasaray, and are currently on three points from two games in the current season.

Reyes was set to play an important role for Mexico at Russia 2018, but missed out due to a right hamstring injury and was cut from the squad.

The center-back, who can also play a defensive midfield role, has previously played for Club America, Porto, Real Sociedad and Espanyol.

Fenerbahce missed out on making the Champions League group stage after losing to Benfica in the third qualifying round and will compete in the Europa League this season.
