Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey signs contract extension until 2023

Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey has signed a contract extension that ties him to the Bundesliga club until 2023.

Leverkusen announced that winger Bailey -- one of the breakout stars of the Bundesliga last season -- had committed his future to them after speculation that he could move elsewhere.

Clubs including Roma, Chelsea and Liverpool were reported to have been monitoring 21-year-old Bailey, who earlier this month told kicker there was "concrete interest" in him.

In May, Bayern Munich tabled a €60 million bid for the 20-year-old, sources told ESPN, with Real Madrid also expressing interest, but Leverkusen are waiting for a €100m offer.

And for now, the Jamaican-born attacker has opted to extend his stay at Leverkusen, who finished fifth in the Bundesliga last season with the help of Bailey's nine goals and six assists.

They begin the new Bundesliga season at Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.
