Villarreal complete Toko Ekambi signing

Villarreal have completed the signing of Cameroon international Karl Toko Ekambi from Angers, the Spanish side confirmed on Thursday.

The 25-year-old joins the Yellow Submarine on a five-year deal, according to a statement on the club's official website.

The forward was one of the breakout stars in Ligue 1 last season, scoring 17 goals and contributing six assists in 37 top-flight outings as Angers finished 14th.

His goal tally represented 40 percent of Angers' overall haul, as he ended the campaign as the division's ninth highest scorer. He also won the Marc-Vivien Foe Award, recognising the best African player in Ligue 1.

In the 2016-17 campaign, Toko Ekambi had scored seven goals for Angers, and also won the African Cup of Nations with the Indomitable Lions in February 2017.

He began his career with Paris FC before signing for Ligue 2's Sochaux in 2014. After 25 goals across two seasons in the second tier, he moved to Angers in 2016.

Toko Ekambi's official presentation as a Villarreal player will take place at the Colegio Público José Soriano at 12:30pm CEST on Friday.
