Carlos Pena joins Necaxa on loan from Rangers as Cruz Azul spell cut short

Carlos Pena has joined Necaxa on loan after fellow Mexican club Cruz Azul ended his year-long move from Rangers six months early.

Pena, 28, will play for Necaxa for the remainder of his loan time after Pedro Caixinha, his former manager at Rangers, cut his spell at Cruz Azul short.

Necaxa posted confirmation of the transfer on Twitter, writing: "Welcome, @G27Gullit To defend these colours," while Cruz Azul tweeted to thank him for his service.

Pena's move comes after ESPN Mexico reported that he has been checked into a rehabilitation centre.

Necaxa sports director Mario Hernandez Lash told mediotiempo.com: "We all deserve a second chance.

"He became the most sought-after player in Mexican football a few years ago, and I do not think he has forgotten to play football. You just have to guide him."

Pena joined Rangers for £2.2 million last summer, scoring five goals in 14 matches before going back to Mexico on loan in January. He failed to score in 10 appearances for Cruz Azul.
