U.S. defender Cameron Carter-Vickers joins Sheffield Utd on loan from Spurs

U.S. youth international Cameron Carter-Vickers has joined join Championship club Sheffield United on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Carter-Vickers has also extended his contract at Spurs by a season, signing a deal until 2020.

The 19-year-old made four appearances in the domestic cups last season but has yet to feature for Spurs in the Premier League.

He is the second highly rated young Tottenham player to move to the Championship on loan after Joshua Onomah joined Aston Villa for the season earlier this month.

Last season, manager Mauricio Pochettino said Carter-Vickers could become "one of the best centre-backs in England" and he earned a first senior U.S. call-up in November.

Although he did not feature in the World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica or Mexico, Carter-Vickers has been a regular for his country at Under-20 and U23 levels.

Sheffield United have started the season with two wins and two defeats from four matches, and their manager Chris Wilder has used a 3-4-3 system similar to the one favoured by Pochettino.
