Manchester United, Tottenham eye Turkish prospect Serkan Bakan - agent

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are battling to sign 16-year-old Serkan Bakan from Turkish club Gaziantepspor, his agent has told ESPN FC.

Attacking midfielder Bakan made history last season when he became the youngest player to score a goal in top-flight Turkish football.

Bakan's representative, Ibrahim Polat, told ESPN FC: "Manchester United and Tottenham have been scouting Bakan.

"Several clubs from Germany have also been keeping tabs following his debut season in the Super Lig.

"He already has goals in the cup and league. Serkan is a special talent, so it is natural for there to be a lot of interest."

Gaziantepspor are likely to struggle to keep Bakan next season after being relegated from the Super Lig.

But they hope to persuade him to sign a professional deal when he turns 17 in January by offering assurances of regular first-team football.

Bakan, who has scored four goals in 11 appearances for Turkey at under-15 and U16 levels, could be the latest in a growing number of departures from Turkish football to major European clubs in recent years.

Enes Unal was snapped up by Manchester City at the age of 18 in 2015, Caglar Soyun joined Freiburg last season and Cengiz Under was signed by Roma for €14.9 million this summer.
