Dimitri Petratos joins Newcastle Jets after terminating contract with Ulsan

A-League side Newcastle have recruited former Brisbane Roar midfielder Dimitri Petratos for the second time in six months.

Petratos signed a three-year deal with the Jets in January but instead headed to South Korean club Ulsan, having been sold by the Roar.

However, the 24-year-old played just eight games for Ulsan before the two parties agreed to terminate his contract.

Petratos, who agreed to a two-season contract with the Jets on Tuesday, is set to play alongside brother Kosta during the 2017-18 A-League season.

"I am very happy to join the club," Petratos said.

"I'll work hard and play my part in the team, but two things I know I am here for are to assist and score goals.

"Through the media I have been following the Jets and just seeing what's been happening over the past few months is very exciting.

"Now that I have come here I kind of feel like it is my home. Now I won't be able to score against the Jets, only for them."

Jets coach Ernie Merrick noted Petratos was an "exciting player and a terrific signing."

"Dimi is an attacking midfielder who is confident on the ball, can retain possession and play key forward passes to strikers," Merrick said of Petratos, who has scored 19 goals in 124 A-League matches.

"I hope to add to his game and encourage him to push more often into goal-scoring areas."
