Shandong Luneng line up move for Man United's Ashley Young - sources

Shandong Luneng are pushing for a deal to sign Manchester United's Ashley Young, sources close to the Chinese Super League club have told ESPN FC.

United captain Wayne Rooney has been strongly linked with a switch to China, and now Young is being lined up for a move.

Shandong have been pursuing former England star Young for several weeks and are trying to convince him to agree a move before the Chinese transfer window closes on Feb. 28.

Sources have told ESPN FC that the club, managed by Felix Magath, are in talks with the 31-year-old's agents and have enlisted the help of a representative based in England.

Young is keeping his options open as he wants to be playing regularly and has been used sparingly by Jose Mourinho so far this season.

The former Aston Villa and Watford player has made just seven starts in all competitions for United and been played out of position at right-back.

Young, in the final 18 months of his contract, is happy at Old Trafford as long he remains part of the manager's first-team plans.

The club would be reluctant to lose him as they battle for silverware on four fronts.
