Chinese club Henan Jianye targeting Barnsley's Elliot Lee - sources

Barnsley forward Elliot Lee has emerged as a surprise target for Chinese Super League side Henan Jianye, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

Henan Jianye are looking to Europe to bring in a new forward and Lee has emerged on their radar, though he has struggled to make an impact at Barnsley since joining the club last summer from West Ham.

The 22-year-old has made just three appearances for Barnsley in the Championship this season, all of them as a substitute.

A number of Football League clubs have been weighing up moves for Lee before the transfer window closes next week, but now the forward has the option of a possible move to China.

Lee, who is the son of former Newcastle and England midfielder Rob Lee, came through the ranks at West Ham, made seven first-team appearances during his time with the Hammers before being released last summer.
