Argentine striker Jonathan Calleri completes move to West Ham on loan

West Ham have completed the signing of Argentine forward Jonathan Calleri on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old arrives from Uruguayan club Deportivo Maldonado, after he played on loan with Brazilian giants Sao Paulo, where he scored 16 goals in 30 appearances over the past six months.

Calleri competed with Argentina at the Olympics and will go straight into Slaven Bilic's side to face Astra Giurgiu in Thursday's Europa League playoff.

"I am very happy to have signed for West Ham," Calleri told West Ham's website. "This represents a fantastic new challenge for me and I am really looking forward to it.

"The Premier League is the best league in the world and so I am delighted to have this opportunity to play in such a prestigious league."

Calleri finished as the leading scorer in the Copa Libertadores, South America's top club competition, and said he was eager to bring the same proficiency to London.

"It is a new chapter for me and so I am excited to get started here and to fit in as quickly as possible, so that I can be as useful as possible to my new teammates and manager," said Calleri, who will wear No. 28.

"These are exciting times for me personally and I am motivated to adapt my game to this new environment.

"I am a player who always tries to work as hard as I can and to do my best for the team."
