Marseille return 'would really please' River Plate midfielder Lucho Gonzalez

Veteran River Plate midfielder Lucho Gonzalez has said he would love to return to Marseille.

Gonzalez, a key part of the French club's last league-winning team in 2010, was sold to Porto in January 2012 before moving back to Argentina three years later.

"It's something that would really please my family and I," the 35-year-old told La Provence when asked about the prospect of rejoining Marseille.

"At Marseille, I experienced some wonderful moments and the people showed me a lot of affection.

"They know that I had to quit the club even though I didn't want to... we're going to wait to see what happens."

While Gonzalez has offered his services to Marseille, several French media outlets have suggested the club are not necessarily interested in bringing him back.

The former Argentina international moved to Marseille for a reported fee of €24 million in June 2009 and was an important figure as they won a league and League Cup double in 2010.

They won the latter trophy again the following season before Gonzalez returned to Porto after making 119 appearances for Marseille.
