Vincent Janssen is close to completing his move to Tottenham Hotspur from AZ Alkmaar after arriving for his medical on Monday, a source close to the club has confirmed to ESPN FC.
Spurs will pay an estimated £17 million for Janssen, 22, who finished last season as top scorer in the Eredivisie with 27 goals in 34 appearances.
AZ gave Janssen permission to travel to Tottenham's North London training centre, Hotspur Way, last month to discuss personal terms, while Spurs officials, including chairman Daniel Levy, have travelled to the Netherlands for face-to-face talks with the Dutch club.
Janssen was pictured leaving AZ training on Friday after Spurs indicated a willingness to meet AZ's asking price -- after an opening bid of around £15m was rejected -- and he travelled to London over the weekend.
Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, German side Wolfsburg and Spurs' London rivals West Ham United were among the other clubs to express an interest in Janssen, but the player made clear his preference to move to White Hart Lane.
Janssen joined AZ for roughly £500,000 from Dutch second tier side Almere City FC last summer and his move to Spurs, which could be announced as early as Monday afternoon, caps a remarkable rise for the striker.
The deal will be the largest fee received for a player by AZ, and includes a sell-on fee should Janssen leave Spurs in the future.
The Netherlands international, who scored against England at Wembley in March, is the club's second signing of the summer after the £11 million capture of Victor Wanyama from Southampton, and he will provide competition for England international Harry Kane -- Spurs' only recognised striker last season.
"Harry Kane? People can say what they want, but I'm not afraid of anybody," Janssen said on Friday. "He is a great striker, but we naturally will see how it goes. We can complement each other, I think I can learn a lot from him."
