Takuma Asano claims Arsenal have approached him about transfer

Sanfrecce Hiroshima striker Takuma Asano says he has been approached by Arsenal about a possible move to the Emirates Stadium.

According to reports in the Japanese media, Asano, 21, has been the subject of a bid from the Gunners.

And the Japan international, who is set to play for his country at the Olympics in August, claimed after a friendly against South Africa that the Premier League club have been in contact.

"I was a little stunned," he is quoted as saying by Kyodo News. "But I feel like I have the confidence to succeed wherever I go."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking for a new striker and has already had an approach for Jamie Vardy turned down by the Leicester player earlier this month.

Asano is not the big name that Gunners fans are craving, and even the player himself seemed to acknowledge that he may not be part of Wenger's first-team plans right away if a move does happen.

"If I am loaned elsewhere, my take on it is that I give it 100 percent," he said.

Nicknamed "The Jaguar," Asano helped his club win the Japanese J League title in 2015 by scoring nine goals in 34 appearances, while he has played four games for Japan and scored once.
