Daniel Didavi to join Wolfsburg on free transfer from Stuttgart

Stuttgart midfielder Daniel Didavi is set to join Wolfsburg on a free transfer in the summer, he announced on Tuesday, and has signed a contract until 2021.

Didavi, 26, has impressed at Stuttgart this season and has scored 10 and set up a further five goals to help his side avoid a season-long fight against relegation.

On Tuesday, he confirmed long-standing rumours that his time at the club, where he played for his entire professional career except for the one season at Nurnberg, will come to an end this summer.

"It was the most difficult decision of my life," Didavi, who had also been linked with a switch to league rivals Bayer Leverkusen, said during a news conference. "I have played here since I was a small kid."

Didavi said that he never considered moving abroad because he knew it would be difficult "without a big name or as a national team player."

On Wolfsburg, he added: "I can identify with the goals of Wolfsburg and the club itself."

He will be reunited with coach Dieter Hecking, who was the manager during Didavi's 2009 season at Nurnberg and Wolfsburg sporting executive Klaus Allofs told dpa: "He exactly fits our profile, and increases our quality in attacking midfield."
