Dundee United sign midfielder Rodney Sneijder on two-year deal

Dundee United have signed midfielder Rodney Sneijder, the brother of Galatasaray midfielder Wesley, on a two-year deal.

Sneijder, 24, joins on a free transfer subject to international clearance after being released by Dutch club Almere City.

The Dutchman, who began his career at Ajax and has also played for for FC Utrecht, was praised by Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara.

He told the club's official website: "I am very happy to sign Rodney.

"He has a fabulous pedigree, and you can see his talent. He will become a fans' favourite at Tannadice, and this signing is a real coup for the club."

Sneijder played for the Scottish Premier League club on trial in two preseason games in the Netherlands and said: "I enjoyed my time with the squad and I know from speaking to the manager where he believes this team can go.

"This is an excellent opportunity for me to develop and progress as a player."
