Hannover to sign St Pauli keeper Philipp Tschauner

Hannover have secured cover for regular No. 1 goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler with Philipp Tschauner arriving from St Pauli in the summer.

The 29-year-old will join on a free transfer in July and should be understudy to the Germany international although, in the event of relegation, he may find himself as the Reds' new No. 1 with Zieler unlikely to remain.

"We're delighted he has chosen Hannover," the Bundesliga club's director of sport, Dirk Dufner, said. "Philipp Tschauner is a very reliable goalkeeper and he has regularly demonstrated his qualities at his previous clubs."

Tschauner is a member of the select band of goalkeepers who have scored a goal from open play, heading in an equaliser for St Pauli against Paderborn in May 2013.

He previously represented 1860 Munich and appeared in the Bundesliga in 2005 for their Bavarian rivals Nurnberg.
