Harvey Elliot scored the decisive penalty and Caoimhin Kelleher saved three spot kicks as Liverpool beat Derby County 3-2 in a shootout in the Carabao Cup third round at Anfield on Wednesday.

Neither team could find the back of the net during the first 90 minutes of regulation and added time, and the match went straight to a shootout.

Liverpool backup keeper Kelleher came up big with two early saves in the shootout, but misses by Stefan Bajcetic and Roberto Firmino left the game in the balance with each side having two remaining spot kicks.

Derby's Louie Sibley and Liverpool's Darwin Nunez both scored and Kelleher saved another setting the stage for Elliot to bury his penalty to send Liiverpool through.
