Austin FC's Diego Fagundez salvages draw with Seattle Sounders

Diego Fagundez scored the tying goal in the 70th minute as Austin FC rallied to forge a 1-1 draw and split the points against the visiting Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday afternoon.

The Sounders rolled into Austin after a 1-1 draw at Liga MX's Club Leon on Thursday that clinched Seattle a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals. It took the visitors about 15 minutes to find their legs as Austin dominated play in offensive zone but could not find the net.

Seattle (1-2-1, 4 points) weathered the storm and eventually took charge, controlling the final 20 minutes of the first half before breaking through on a goal by Will Bruin in the 43rd minute.

The Sounders' scoring play began in midfield, as Cristian Roldan was left unmarked on the right sideline and dribbled the ball deep into the Austin zone before crossing a pass to the near post. Bruin outfought Austin defender Julio Cascante for the pass and directed the ball into the center of the net for his first goal of the season and a 1-0 Seattle lead.

Austin (2-1-1, 7 points) applied the pressure for an equalizer, especially in the final third of the match, with Alex Ring blasting a shot off the right post in the 64th minute and Ruben Gabrielsen uncorking a header three minutes later that was just deflected over the net by leaping Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland.

Fagundez produced the tying goal by leaping to redirect a rebound of his own shot past Cleveland after a wild flurry inside Sounders' 18-yard box.

Both Cleveland (seven saves) and Austin keeper Brad Stuver (three saves) had clutch stops in the final 20 minutes to secure the draw. Seattle has never lost to Austin, garnering two draws and a win in the three all-time matches between the teams.
