San Jose Earthquakes, Columbus Crew share spoils in six-goal thriller
Francisco Calvo's second goal of the match six minutes into stoppage time rallied short-handed San Jose to a stunning 3-3 draw with the visiting Columbus Crew on Saturday.
Calvo scored a header off a corner kick after pulling the Earthquakes (0-1-1, 1 point) within 3-2 when he scored in the 84th minute.
Lucas Zelarayan scored twice for the Crew (1-0-1, 4 points).
San Jose took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute on Cristian Espinoza's penalty kick, but the Earthquakes went down a player in the 33rd when Jamiro Monteiro was issued a red card.

Zelarayan tied it 1-1 in the 40th minute, Gyasi Zardes put the Crew ahead in the 68th and Zelarayan extended the lead to 3-1 in the 73rd on a 22-yard free kick. He had three goals this season.
But Calvo's late goals earned the Earthquakes their first point of the new season.
The Crew have had trouble winning on the road in recent seasons, and they fell behind early when Milos Degenek fouled Paul Marie. A VAR decision awarded a penalty, and Espinoza put a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner for the 1-0 lead.
San Jose ran into trouble of its own with Monteiro's tackle of Darlington Nagbe that resulted in the red card.
The Crew took advantage to make it 1-1 on Zelarayan's ripper from 20 yards. Since joining the Crew in 2020 and helping Columbus win the MLS Cup that season, Zelarayan has scored 13 goals from outside the box.
Zardes put Columbus ahead 2-1 three minutes after replacing Miguel Berry, scoring off a pass by Derrick Etienne Jr. Zelarayan padded the lead with a shot to the upper right corner. He had five free kick goals last season, the second-most in an MLS season since 2003.
The Crew are 3-14-11 on the road in the past two seasons and were shut out nine times 17 games away games last season
The teams next play March 12 when the Earthquakes visit Philadelphia while the Crew hosts Toronto FC.
