CF Montreal extended its unbeaten run to four games with a 3-1 win against the visiting Toronto FC on Friday. Montreal (8-7-7, 31 points) is 2-0-2 in its past four matches after a five-game winless slide. Toronto (3-13-6, 15 points) lost its fourth straight and fell to 0-5-2 in its past seven games. Montreal dominated possession in the first half, getting six of its 13 shots of the half on target while recording nearly 62 percent of the touches. It was a rough start for Toronto. The Reds conceded a chance in the second minute to Joaquin Torres from the edge of the box that skimmed over the net and were down to 10 men at the five-minute mark after midfielder Noble Okello was assessed a red card following video review of a kick that caught midfielder Victor Wanyama in the right thigh area. Minutes after setting up Zachary Brault-Guillard for a strike, midfielder Samuel Piette put the home side on top in the 23rd minute. Goalkeeper Quentin Westberg made the initial save on Djordje Mihailovic's free kick and Piette was there for the rebound to put Montreal ahead 1-0. Piette nearly had his second of the match in the 31st minute as he came charging through the box, but Westberg held onto the ball. Five minutes later, Mihailovic fed forward Bjorn Johnsen at the edge of the goal area, but Westberg came up with the stop. Toronto leveled the score in the 58th minute. Yeferson Soteldo maintained possession along the right side of the box before spotting Ifunanyachi Achara speeding down the middle to tie it 1-1. Torres gave Montreal a 2-1 lead in the 68th minute, with a quick strike off a Brault-Guillard centering pass that went top left corner. Romell Quioto marked his return after a nine-game absence with a far side strike from the left side to extend it to 3-1 in the 75th minute. --Field Level Media
