The two sides traded chances in the first half.

In the fourth minute, Brenner tried to make Montreal pay for a turnover, but his shot went wide. Four minutes later, Cincinnati goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton bumped his chest out for a save as Zachary Brault-Guillard sped in from the right side to try to latch onto a rebound.

Montreal goalkeeper Sebastian Breza matched his counterpart in the 14th minute, jumping to the right to get his fingertips on a free kick from Ronald Matarrita and five minutes later going to the left and getting his hands on a long range shot from Haris Medunjanin to deflect it away.

Brenner found the back of the net in the 32nd minute after a missed tackle by Montreal defender Joel Waterman but was ruled offside.

Cincinnati put the pressure on early in the second half.

After Breza snared a Matarrita chance, Allan Cruz came within inches of giving the home side the lead in the 51st minute, but his shot from the penalty arc hit the crossbar.

At the other end, Brault-Guillard sent a shot from the right flank that beat Tyton far side, but the play was ruled offside.

Following Camacho's red card, Cincinnati midfielder Alvaro Barreal was denied by Montreal's wall on defense on the ensuing free kick.

Brenner stayed strong on the ball in the 78th minute as he eyed the tiebreaker, but Breza stayed with him for the save.

Cincinnati hit the crossbar again three minutes later on a long-range shot from Luciano Acosta.
