DC United got off to a flying start on a special day at home on Saturday then poured it on with a huge second half and cruised to victory, 7-1 over Toronto FC. The host side scored two goals in the first eight minutes. Kevin Paredes tallied his first Major League Soccer goal in the second minute and Nigel Robertha scored in the eighth minute. DC United were fueled by pregame tributes to a longtime fan who recently passed and two club legends. Toronto FC lost its sixth straight game. Ayo Akinola scored the Canadian side's lone goal in the first half, but the club appears to have hit rock bottom. It has allowed 26 goals this season, most in the league. Andy Najar, playing in his 100th career match in a DC United uniform who returned to the club this past offseason, assisted on two of his team's goals. Toronto had been without three of its best players going into the match, but Yeferson Soteldo and Alejandro Pozuelo returned and were second-half substitutes. It didn't help. Toronto FC lost defender Eriq Zavaleta to a red card late in the match, which compounded matters for their already porous backline. Najar found Paredes with a cross that led to Paredes' goal soon after the opening whistle. Then DC United struck again with Robertha finishing a pass from Junior Moreno. Kamara and Yow scored on breakaways ahead of Toronto FC defense, avoiding offside calls for easy goals.
