Dylan Wenzel-Halls gives Brisbane Roar victory over Newcastle Jets

Newcastle Jets' horror A-League start continued as they slipped to a fourth consecutive loss, beaten 2-1 by Brisbane Roar at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Celebrating their 400th game in the competition, the Jets were looking to break the shackles of a slow start but instead only re-enforced what was already their worst beginning since the A-League's 2005 inception.

Dominating for large periods of the match, the home side was undone by a deflection and one moment of sleepy defence.

Riku Danzaki dug the knife in after just six minutes, admittedly given too much space in his quarter before pulling the trigger on a 25-metre speculator for the Roar.

The Japanese import's kick took a deflection off Nikolai Topor-Stanley before beating 'keeper Jack Duncan -- marking consecutive matches in which the veteran defender had the last touch in an opposition goal.

From there the rest of the half belonged to the Jets with Ramy Najjarine weaving his magic from the midfield.

After Roy O'Donovan missed two chances, teammate Valentino Yuel made no mistake, leaping above the pack to connect with a Najjarine corner to head home to make it 1-1 after 38 minutes.

The Jets had the lion's share of possession early in the second half but were caught out badly in the 61st minute. Former Socceroo Scott McDonald showed great vision, timing a sublime through-ball for Dylan Wenzel-Halls who split two defenders and shot truly on the diagonal to make it 2-1.

The starkly contrasting lead-ins -- Brisbane took the field for the first time in 18 days while the Jets were backing up from Sunday's 2-1 loss to Macarthur -- began to show in the last half an hour.

The Roar looked short of a gallop and the Jets continued to press, but a late shot by Makis Petratos was well saved by debutant 'keeper Macklin Freke before a Connor O'Toole snap floated wide.
