A spectacular volley from Vignesh Dakshinamurthy and a smart finish from Adam Le Fondre saw Mumbai City cement their spot on the top of the ISL table with a 2-0 win over Hyderabad.

In a match that was entertaining, but one that lacked many clear-cut chances, these two finishes stood out.

The Vignesh goal in the 38th minute after a superb move. Ahmed Jahouh swept a lovely cross-field into Bipin Singh, whose first-time pass to Vignesh was delicate and accurate. Leaping to meet it, Vignesh smashed a volley into the top corner. It was a wonderful goal.

Mumbai had been missing Hugo Boumous, who pulled up injured in the warm-up, and while they had strung together a few good moves - mainly through Bipin - they had looked unlikely to score, until Vignesh stepped up.

Hyderabad went on the front foot after that, and almost equalised before half time when Akash Mishra's superb cross from the left flank was headed wide by an unmarked Mohammed Yasir from five yards out.

Both sides came out swinging in the second half, but Hyderabad's attack was sparked by the introduction of Liston Colaco in the 52nd minute. It was Mumbai, though, who took the first decisive step of the half in the 59th minute. Rowllin Borges pouncing on a mistake and squaring it to Adam Le Fondre, who took a touch and swept a superb finish into the bottom corner.

Hyderabad continued to press, Colaco's runs a marked threat, but Mumbai City held firm. Hyderabad's loss means Bengaluru FC are the only undefeated team remaining in the competition.

Mumbai are top with 16 points in 7, and play Kerala Blasters next on January 2. Hyderabad are in sixth with 9 points in six. Their next game is against the Blasters as well, on December 27.
