Figueroa's late goal lifts Dynamo to draw vs. Nashville

Maynor Figueroa scored in the 89th minute to lift the visiting Houston Dynamo to a 1-1 draw with the expansion Nashville SC on Saturday.

Daniel Rios scored in the 49th minute for Nashville SC (4-5-4, 16 points), who have three wins and two ties in their past five home matches.

Houston (3-4-7, 16 points) is winless in five matches (0-2-3) after a three-game winning streak.

Figueroa's second goal of the season came after a corner kick that Nashville goalkeeper Joe Willis was able to push aside. But Darwin Quintero was at the right side of the box and chipped a pass to Figueroa for a header.

Willis, who started 88 games for Houston from 2015-19 before being traded in November, had four saves of his seven saves in the first half.

Houston keeper Marko Maric prevented a two-goal deficit in the 64th minute when he denied a half-volley from close range by Hany Mukhtar. Maric made two saves.

Rios, who scored his first goal of the season in the 1-0 win vs. D.C. United on Wednesday, made it 1-0 off the setup by Alex Jones.

Jones entered at halftime for Alex Muyl and the move paid quick dividends. He dribbled to the penalty area with pace before slipping the ball to his right for the unmarked Rios.

Ten players have scored for the expansion club, with Rios being the first with multiple goals.

Houston was more active in the first half with the Dynamo leading 4-0 for shots on goal, but it was Nashville that came within inches of getting on the board first in the 33rd minute.

Rios, Nashville's first signing who spent a season with the club in the USL Championship last season, thought he had scored after a long ball by Mukhtar. Rios, however was ruled offside following a video review.

The Dynamo return home to play Sporting Kansas City next Saturday. Nashville travels to New England on the same day.
