Club America is the 2019 Copa MX champion after a penalty from Emanuel Aguilera secured Las Aguilas a 1-0 win over FC Juarez on Wednesday.

Aguilera scored the only goal of the game from the spot in the 40th minute after Henry Martin was fouled in the box.

Second-division side Juarez pressed hard for an equalizer, but in the end America held on for a record sixth Copa title.

America is now the reigning Liga MX and cup holder in Mexico, and the Copa MX victory means Las Aguilas has won more titles in each competition than any other club.

Wednesday's win was former Mexico coach Miguel Herrera's first cup victory and adds to his haul of two Liga MX titles with Club America.

"It was the one that was missing," Herrera told ESPN after the game. "The boys did a great job. It was never going to be an easy game ... The team showed desire. I didn't like how we played a lot but you have to be clinical."

Club America is in fourth position in Liga MX and well-poised for another title challenge as it looks for a league and cup Clausura double.

Las Aguilas face Mexico City rival and fifth-placed Cruz Azul on Sunday in a repeat of the 2018 Apertura final.
