Osorio, Chapman score as Toronto FC blank Orlando City

Jonathan Osorio and Jay Chapman each scored in the second half as visiting Toronto FC posted a 2-0 victory over Orlando City SC on Saturday.

Set up by Michael Bradley, Osorio used some nifty dribbling to gain a slight opening in the box, then struck his attempt into the opposite corner of the goal for Toronto (5-2-1) to finally fill the scoresheet in the 65th minute. Chapman, who came on as a sub, then converted a stellar angle-shot past Orlando keeper Brian Rowe (seven saves) to pad the advantage on 77 minutes.

It was a needed win for TFC, which was 1-2-1 in the previous four matches and remains without injured striker Jozy Altidore (hamstring). Orlando (3-4-3), meanwhile, fell short of a third consecutive home victory and extending its overall unbeaten form to three straight contests.

Both sides were relatively quiet in terms for early opportunities Saturday. Justin Morrow, though, provided Toronto's first quality chance in the fourth minute when he sent an Auro cross just over the bar.

However, it was Orlando that stepped up the pressure the rest of the half. Will Johnson gave City its best threat of the half on a trailing, straight-way strike from Tesho Akindele that Toronto keeper Quentin Westberg dove for the save on the 30th minute. Orlando stars Nani and Dom Dwyer were also active in the box and on set pieces throughout the game but had nothing to show for it.

Toronto, however, was the aggressor out of the break and maintained the pressure that ultimately led to its two goals. Orlando did not go down quietly but was never able to find enough space in the final-third to take the lead or equalize.

Westberg also made a key late save to preserve the cushion for the visitors. Osorio has three goals on the season and two in as many contests. Chapman has scored twice in league play for 2019.
