Luis Quinones ensures Tigres share points with Monterrey in Liga MX's Clasico Regio

A late goal from Colombian winger Luis Quinones earned a 1-1 draw for Tigres against Monterrey in Liga MX's Clasico Regio, canceling a first-half golazo from Rogelio Funes Mori.

The city rivals played out an intense game between Liga MX's top two teams in the league, with leader Tigres shading possession overall and pressuring for the equalizer in the second half.

Argentine Funes Mori opened the scoring in the 34th minute, linking up with left-back Leonel Vangioni and back-heeling the ball into net from inside the area in one of the goals of the season in Liga MX.

Chile international Eduardo Vargas spawned a good chance to put Tigres in the lead minutes earlier when he shot over the bar from near the penalty spot, with no Monterrey defender close.

Tigres goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman saved from Jesus Gallardo just before half-time to keep the score down to 1-0 at the break, but Tigres exerted more control over the game in the second half.

The equalizer came in the 81st, when Quinones fired the ball across goal from the left wing and Monterrey keeper Marcelo Barovero palmed it into the goal.

Monterrey remains undefeated in 2019, although its run without conceding a goal ended at 560 minutes when Quinones leveled.

Tigres are currently one point ahead of Monterrey in the Liga MX table.
