Port Vale's rise away from the foot of the League Two table continued with a 1-0 win at high-flying Exeter.
Tom Pope scored the only goal of the game in the 25th minute when he turned in from 10 yards from David Worrall's cross, but it was no more than Vale deserved as they created the better chances throughout.
Below-par Exeter struggled in atrocious conditions as the strong winds of Storm Brian made life difficult for both teams. They did have the ball in the net in the second half, but Reuben Reid's effort was disallowed by the referee.
Port Vale could have increased their lead as Worrall completely missed his kick when well placed in the centre of the penalty box and Tyrone Bennett skied high with another good chance.
Exeter goalkeeper Christy Pym made a good save to deny Bennett, while Jayden Stockley thought he had won his side a penalty in injury time when he was tripped inside the box, but nothing was given.
It was a third straight win for the Valiants under new manager Neil Aspin, while defeat for Exeter means it is now three games without a win for Paul Tisdale's side, who dropped to fourth.
