A goal from Costa Rica forward Marco Urena gave his side a 1-0 CONCACAF Gold Cup win over Honduras in New Jersey on Friday.

Urena struck after 39 minutes when he converted a Rodney Wallace cross to break the deadlock at Red Bull Arena.

But Honduras had enjoyed the early chances, with Romell Quioto going close in the opening moments when his effort was saved by keeper Patrick Pemberton.

And they missed a good chance to equalise as the game entered its final quarter of an hour, substitute Alberth Elis firing over the bar.

Costa Rica's next game in Group A comes against Canada on July 11, while Honduras face French Guiana.
