Corentin Tolisso nets late goal as Lyon hold Juventus at home

Juventus will have to wait to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League after a late Lyon goal denied them victory in Turin.

The hosts took the lead through a 13th-minute penalty from Gonzalo Higuain, but Corentin Tolisso earned the French side a 1-1 draw with the equaliser in the 85th minute.

Gianluigi Buffon was making his 100th Champions League appearance in goal for the Serie A leaders and he denied Maciej Rybus with an early save.

Both teams had chances in a frantic opening spell and Mario Mandzukic forced the first save from Anthony Lopes down the other end.

Two minutes later, Juventus took the lead. Higuain broke away down the left and played in Stefano Sturaro.

There did not appear too much danger but Mouctar Diakhaby inexplicably pushed the midfielder and Higuain tucked away his ninth goal of the season from the spot.

The dangerous Rybus threatened an immediate response with a volley just over the bar but Lyon were fortunate not to be two down after Claudio Marchisio's fine volley struck a post.

Higuain has barely put a foot wrong since joining Juventus in the summer but he spurned a golden chance to make it two six minutes before half-time, blazing over the bar after brilliant work from Mandzukic to set him up.

Lyon finished the half strongly, with Rachid Ghezzal shooting just wide and then Maxime Gonalons following suit.

The visitors enjoyed good possession in the second half but an equaliser looked set to elude them until Marchisio gave away a free kick for bringing down Gonalons.

It needed to be a brilliant delivery from Ghezzal and it was, the Algerian winger's cross needing just a touch to guide it past Buffon, and it was Tolisso who obliged.

Juventus went in search of the winner they needed and Mandzukic headed wide deep into injury time.

Lyon then went down the other end and might have stolen it. Andrea Barzagli miscontrolled the ball on the halfway line but made up for it in brilliant style by sliding in to deny Alexander Lacazette as he lined up a shot.

The result, coupled with Sevilla's victory over Dinamo Zagreb, meant Juventus dropped to second in Group H, two points behind the Spaniards, with Lyon a further four points back.
