Inter Milan beaten by Sassuolo after Pietro Iemmello brace

Managerless Inter Milan's woes deepened on Sunday in a 2-1 loss to Sassuolo at the San Siro.

Inter sacked Stefano Pioli after six months in charge on Tuesday, placing youth-team coach Stefano Vecchi in control for the final three games of the season.

But Pietro Iemmello scored twice as Sassuolo took a two-goal lead and Inter's only reply came from Eder midway through the second half.

Pioli replaced Frank de Boer in November on an 18-month deal, but paid for Inter's poor recent form, which now has seen the Nerazzurri pick up just one point from their last seven games.

Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has been linked with a return to Italy with cash-rich Inter, but the former Juventus boss intimated he would be staying at Stamford Bridge after winning the Premier League title.

Inter began well and Mauro Icardi hit a post with a header after 29 minutes, but eight minutes later the visitors were ahead.

Jeison Murillo lost the ball and Domenico Berardi teed up Iemmello, who found the net from the edge of the area.

Sassuolo doubled their lead five minutes into the second half when Pol Lirola crossed from the right and Iemmello tucked the ball in.

Inter finally responded when half-time substitute Eder struck a right-footed effort from the left side of the area.

And the hosts pushed on, but Ivan Perisic's header over was the closes the came, while Samir Handanovic had to save well to deny Gregoire Defrel.

Inter complete the season with fixtures against Lazio and Udinese.
