Wonder goal not enough as Las Palmas sunk by Yellow Submarine

Villarreal continued their positive start to the season as Cedric Bakambu's stoppage-time goal completed a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Las Palmas at El Madrigal.
Fran Escriba's men fell behind to a world-class strike from Kevin-Prince Boateng in the first half but equalised in the 64th minute with a Nicola Sansone penalty.
A draw would arguably have been the correct result but the Yellow Submarine plundered all three points as Bakambu showed strength to nudge the ball to Roberto Soriano, who slotted a pass back to the Congolese forward and he made no mistake with a calm finish.
Villarreal came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock in the ninth minute when a dreadful clearance from Las Palmas goalkeeper Raul Lizoain went straight to Jonathan dos Santos.
The Mexican beat Lizoain with a chip but it bounced back off the crossbar to Bakambu, who headed in the rebound but was offside. If he had left Sansone to do the honours, the goal would have stood.
Las Palmas grew into the game and Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo got down well to his left to keep out a powerful low shot from Jonathan Viera, before Mario Gaspar did well to deny Boateng as he tried to get on the end of Michel's low cross from the right.
But the islanders did forge ahead after half an hour with a goal good enough to settle any game.
Viera's clever chip was directed towards Tana, whose spectacular volleyed back-heel was met by an equally special scissors-kick finish from Boateng, who gave Asenjo no chance.
Villarreal threatened early in the second period as Manu Trigueros poked a left-foot shot wide from the edge of the area but Asenjo was called on again to deny Tana at the other end.
The hosts drew level when Sansone was tripped by Roque Mesa in the box and the Italy international got up to dispatch the penalty himself in the 64th minute.
Asenjo saved again from Dani Castellano with the game in the balance heading into the final quarter, and at the death it was Villarreal who stole it with Bakambu's last-gasp goal.
