Robert Lewandowski salvages late point for Bayern at Hertha

Robert Lewandowski's goal deep into added-time earned Bayern Munich a 1-1 draw at Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

Captain Vedad Ibisevic's 21st-minute tap-in appeared to have given the home side all three points at the Olympiastadion to end a run of 11 successive Bundesliga defeats at the hands of the Bavarians, stretching back to February 2009.

However, substitute Lewandowski denied Hertha with a close-range effort after an Arjen Robben effort was insufficiently cleared by the hosts.

The goal sparked angry protests from the Hertha camp - it came in the seventh minute of stoppage-time when only five had been added.

The draw means Bayern's lead at the top is now eight points - although RB Leipzig can trim the gap to five with victory at Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday.

After an even opening, Ibisevic opened the scoring when he stretched at the near post to jab Marvin Plattenhardt's free-kick high into the net from close range.

The hosts were denied a second goal in the 38th minute by a linesman's flag. Ibisevic hooked in from close range but Genki Haraguchi was penalised for fouling Arturo Vidal as he headed a corner goalwards.

The hosts had a let-off as the clock ticked down towards the interval, with Plattenhardt seeing an attempted clearance fall straight into the hands of a grateful Rune Jarstein, following a threatening run and cross from Douglas Costa.

Ibisevic had the first chance of the second half, nipping in front of David Alaba in the 50th minute but prodding wide of the near post from six yards, before Haraguchi shot over, then Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer kept out a deflected Vladimir Darida shot.

Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti made a double substitution just past the hour mark, with Lewandowski and Xabi Alonso replacing Vidal and Joshua Kimmich.

Mats Hummels was booked and both substitutes soon followed him into referee Patrick Ittrich's book as Bayern's frustration grew, before Xabi saw a shot deflected wide for a corner.

Ancelotti made his final substitution with 13 minutes remaining, bringing off Juan Bernat for Kingsley Coman.

Ibisevic got a great reception from the majority of the fans when he came off in the 87th minute, replaced by Alexander Esswein.

After Hertha goalkeeper Jarstein tipped Alaba's 25-yard 89th-minute free-kick around the post for a corner, the visitors equalised after Peter Pekarik tripped Coman just outside the area.

Thiago took the free-kick and Robben shot goalwards - and although the Dutchman's effort was blocked, Lewandowski reacted sharpest to earn his team a point.
