Mauro Zarate makes the difference with late winner for Fiorentina against Carpi

Substitute Mauro Zarate struck three minutes into stoppage time as Fiorentina edged past Serie A strugglers Carpi 2-1.Carpi, down in 18th, were within seconds of extending their unbeaten league run to six games after Kevin Lasagna had cancelled out Borja Valero's early opener. But Zarate rescued Fiorentina, whose coach Paulo Sousa was sent off for the second successive game, with a curling effort from the edge of the area. The effort, in the dying seconds from the player who only joined La Viola from West Ham last month, keeps Fiorentina in the Champions League places. The hosts were stunned by Carpi in the Coppa Italia at Stadio Artemio Franchi in December, but there appeared to be little to worry them on the same ground this time when they went ahead in the second minute.Josip Ilicic played a lovely pass into the path of Valero, who controlled the ball in the penalty area and sent a shot through the legs of his marker and into Vid Belec's goal. But Carpi were a threat and the hosts' goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu was called on to keep out Matteo Mancosu's header while Lorenzo Lollo fired narrowly wide before half-time.After Fiorentina boss Sousa was sent to the stands for dissent, Carpi drew level in the 73rd minute. Gaetano Letizia won back possession and worked the ball to Lasagna, who struck first-time from 12 yards to level the game. That was how things remained until two minutes into stoppage time when Zarate cut in from the left and nestled his shot in the top right-hand corner of the net.
