Cristiano Ronaldo scores four as Portugal thrash Andorra 6-0

Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals as European champions Portugal humbled nine-man Andorra 6-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Aveiro.

The captain reached 65 international strikes with a brace in each half, Joao Cancelo and Andre Silva adding the extras against a team which lost Jordi Rubio and Marc Rebes to red cards.

Ronaldo was sidelined by injury when Portugal kicked off their qualifying campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland and the Real Madrid star made sure to make amends.

The game was barely a minute old when Ricardo Quaresma's corner pinged around the box before Ronaldo smashed the ball home with his left boot.

In the fourth minute he lurched forward to get his head to another Quaresma cross and the three points were already in the bag.

Andorra managed to resist conceding again until the 44th minute, when Cancelo raced to the byline before improbably sneaking the ball in at the far post.

Ronaldo made it a perfect hat trick two minutes after play resumed. This time Andre Gomes provided the cross that was deftly steered into the back of the net by a famous right foot.

Floundering, Andorra lost Rubio to a second yellow card in the 62nd minute.

Five minutes later, Ronaldo grabbed his fourth from a Jose Fonte knockdown, with Andorra's night soon taking another turn for the worse when midfielder Rebes was dismissed for fouling Ronaldo.

To add insult to injury, Portugal made it 6-0 with a tap-in from Silva after Josep Gomez fumbled Quaresma's free kick.
