Denmark stay in good position to qualify for Euros with win over Serbia

Denmark kept themselves within touching distance of Portugal at the top of Euro 2016 qualifying Group I with a 2-0 win over Serbia.

An early goal from Yussuf Poulsen and a late strike from substitute Jakob Poulsen proved decisive for the Danes in Copenhagen.

The hosts might have won more convincingly had captain Daniel Agger not had a penalty saved in the latter stages of the first half.

The result lifted second-placed Demark to 10 points, two behind leaders Portugal, and left Serbia, who have had three points deducted, with just one.

Leipzig's Yussuf Poulsen opened the scoring after 13 minutes as he lashed home his first international goal from a Nicklas Bendtner lay-off.

Agger was presented with the chance to double the lead in the 34th minute after Pierre Hojbjerg was fouled by Aleksandar Kolarov but Vladimir Stojkovic saved.

Serbia were unable to make the most of the reprieve and Jakob Poulsen settled the contest with a goal on the counter-attack three minutes from time.
